Apprenticeships for Pennsylvania manufacturing jobs added

Posted on December 3, 2018

A new group of apprenticeships for Pennsylvania manufacturing jobs have been created.

The new apprenticeship program for manufacturing careers has been approved in Lewistown, underscoring the Wolf Administration’s commitment to expanding apprenticeships, increasing the skilled workforce and attracting more businesses to Pennsylvania.

The apprenticeship for Structural Metal Fabricators and Fitters is sponsored by The Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology, in partnership with Meeker Equipment Company in Belleville for its on-the-job training.
Meeker Equipment produces asphalt plant equipment and Infernotherm products. The Academy will provide related training and instruction to support the apprenticeship program.
“Apprenticeship programs are ideal for students or individuals who need retraining to learn the skills needed to succeed in today’s jobs, because they offer a way to earn a paycheck while learning those new skills,” said L&I Secretary Oleksiak. “Governor Wolf is making job training a priority for his administration, and apprenticeships are a key component of that initiative.”
Governor Tom Wolf’s PAsmart initiative is a new and innovative way to improve coordination between state agencies, cut red tape, and invest in people and business to expand innovative job training in apprenticeships and other programs so workers get the skills they need to compete in the global economy.
After completing the 6,000-hour program with the Mifflin County Academy, apprentices receive increased skills, and a nationally recognized credential to support future career advancement and increased wages.
“All of us at The Academy are excited to be a part of the PA Smart Initiative and to be able to bring additional workforce training opportunities to our region,” said Mike McMonigal, Supervisor of Adult and Post-Secondary Education for Mifflin County Academy.
