Middle River Aircraft Systems, a part of GE Aviation, today announced that it is expanding its employment by 200 new jobs in Maryland — bringing the Company’s employment at its Middle River facility to more than 1,000 over the next year.

According to a press release, in the last five years, GE has invested more than $200 million in the Middle River facility and new program investments. The 200 new jobs will support the development and manufacturing of the GEnx-2B engine thrust reverser for the Boeing 747-8 commercial aircraft.

Dish Network, a provider of satellite-based cable, is planning on hiring dozens of customer service reps in Virginia, according to a company statement.

Dish Network plans on hiring specifically in the New River Valley.

For its call center in Christianburg, the cable provider plans on hiring about 80 customer service and sales reps, along with technical support positions.

“We really look at the volume that comes in, and our volumes increase with new customers. We’re very excited that we can have these additional jobs,“ said Matt Biederman, General Manager.
