Pennsylvania Jobs Created by Two Companies
Two companies will soon help to create more Pennsylvania jobs (Click here).
Lancaster Leaf Tobacco Company of Pennsylvania Inc. will become North America’s largest processor of dark air-cured tobacco and Alpha Mills Corp. will create almost two dozen new jobs thanks to $2.7 million in new state investments.
“Even in a tough economy, we are helping businesses grow and become better able to compete in the global economy,” Gov. Edward G. Rendell said. “It’s vitally important that we continue our work to keep businesses in Pennsylvania and to bring new companies within our borders. If we lose the ability to do this, these crucial projects will go elsewhere.”
Lancaster Leaf Tobacco Company of Pennsylvania Inc. will receive a $2 million, 15-year loan to bring its Kenbridge, Va., based plant to Lancaster County and increase its 119-member workforce by 16 over the next three years. Lancaster Leaf is currently operating in a 230,000-square-foot plant in Lancaster. The $3.5 million project is sponsored by the EDC Finance Corporation.
Alpha Mills Corp. will receive a $660,000, 10-year loan to consolidate two of its Pottsville facilities into a 250,000-square-foot operation along Route 61 in North Manheim Township in Schuylkill County. Alpha Mills is a manufacturer of custom knit products, including sportswear and intimates. It is also in the warehousing/distribution business. The $1.1 million project is sponsored by the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation and it is expected to create 19 jobs within the next three years.
